Avicenna has teamed up with energy company EDF to deliver medicines to vulnerable patients.
The initiative, which started in the last few weeks, has seen EDF engineers collect supplies from Avicenna member pharmacies and deliver to patients who are self-isolating or unable to get to their local pharmacy.
The move is the latest in a package of measures Avicenna has developed to support its members during the coronavirus pandemic, including creating an online Covid-19 resource hub and producing webinars and guidance for pharmacy teams, as well as advice on business continuity planning. The company has also helped members source PPE equipment.
On the linkup with EDF, chief executive Jonathan Power said: “We approached various potential partners for assistance and were incredibly grateful to receive this support from EDF, which will ensure independent pharmacies can safely and securely scale up deliveries to reach the most vulnerable.â€
Avicenna chairman Salim Jetha added: “Self-isolation and the shielding of vulnerable groups has put extra pressure on pharmacists wanting to offer home delivery services. Avicenna has a strong track record of supporting independent pharmacies, many of whom don’t have deep pockets to sustain their businesses, and are deeply grateful for a helping hand from the EDF volunteers.â€
