Asda Pharmacy has revealed plans to offer heavily discounted private flu jabs to up to 6,000 patients who book online from September 22.
A notice on the company’s website informs patients interested in flu vaccination: “The cost of this jab is £14,97.
“However, as it is our 60th Anniversary, from 22nd September we will be offering the Flu Jab service for just 60p for up to 6,000 patients who book online.”
Following the 6,000th private flu vaccination consultation, the cost “will revert back to our standard £14.97 price,” the chain said.
The private flu service is offered to individuals aged between 12 and 64 who are not eligible for the NHS-funded service.
The move echoes the 2022-23 flu vaccination season that saw chains including Boots, Well Pharmacy and Asda racing to the bottom over private flu jab prices late in the season, culminating in Well offering the service for free to over-18s in January 2023.
At the end of August, Community Pharmacy England revealed that the Government had refused to grant an increase to the £9.58 fee for NHS flu vaccinations in 2025-26, meaning the reimbursement to pharmacies will have remained unchanged for seven years.
