LloydsPharmacy has partnered with London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust to offer patients community-based gastroenterology treatment out of mobile 'health units'.
Specialist intravenous therapy nurses from the pharmacy chain will administer subcutaneous injections and infusions at one of two mobile units in Wembley and South Ruislip.
The service will see the LloydsPharmacy nurses work alongside St Mark's Hospital's inflammatory bowel disease team, and will be available from the units four days a week.
LloydsPharmacy said the partnership would “help free up time and space in hospital for patients who need very complex or urgent care, as well as supporting those who are admitted to the hospital.”
Rhiannon Skilton, healthcare operations manager at LloydsPharmacy parent company McKesson UK, said: “Going through treatment can be a stressful time for patients, so providing alternative options where they have that treatment can help them feel more in control."
The units were provided by the charity Tenovus Health.
