PHE launches cervical screening campaign

Public Health England (PHE) has launched a campaign – Cervical Screening Saves Lives – to encourage women aged 25-64 to accept their cervical screening invitation and attend their appointment.

Around 2,600 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer in England each year and two women die each day from the condition. Screening rates however have continued to drop, reaching a 20-year low, with one in four eligible women in the UK not attending their test.

The campaign, which will run 5 March until 28 April, aims to support healthcare professionals by providing a range of free resources including digital materials and briefing documents to help to encourage an uptake in the screening process. A pharmacy resource pack is also available, which includes A4 posters, stickers, shel wobblers and concertina wallet sized information cards and dispenser.

All materials are available to order or download from the PHE Campaign Resource Centre.

Commenting on the campaign, Anne Mackie, director of programmes for the UK National Screening Committee at PHE, said: “I would encourage all healthcare professionals to back the campaign to enable more women to attend and normalise conversations about screening.”
