Thornton & Ross recycles office furniture in local sustainability partnership

Thornton & Ross is collaborating with Third Sector Leaders (TSL) and Kirklees Council to donate good-quality office furniture for re-use in the local economy.

The company, which is embarking on an expansion and upgrade of its facilities at Linthwaite, Huddersfield, reached out to the local community with the help of Kirklees Council. With the help of local charity TSL, who provide free advice and support to local charities and community groups, T&R found several opportunities to donate furniture as part of the company’s sustainability agenda.

TSL’s chair Hilary Thompson said: “it’s fantastic so many have benefitted – from Hive Community, a brand new social enterprise in Huddersfield town centre assisting young people and adults with learning difficulties, to Grassroots who put on family activities in Batley.”

“There are lots of ways that local businesses can get involved in supporting community groups and charities in their area, from volunteering time or skills, fundraising or sponsorship, or as in this case, donating unwanted goods, furniture, or kit.”

Specialist low energy home and building solution company Green Building Store, which is currently expanding their office just up the road from T&R, were beneficiaries too.

For Thornton & Ross, executive vice-president UK & USA Roger Scarlett-Smith EVP UK & USA said: “We value our relationship with Kirklees Council and hope that we can build on and develop this partnership which supports the council in its overall sustainability agenda.

"By working with others as a trusted partner, we can reduce our impact on the environment and act in a socially responsible manner."
