Well: Two thirds of young men have experienced ED

Over two thirds of men aged between 18 and 34 have experienced erectile dysfunction (ED) during sex, research published by Well Pharmacy yesterday (August 18) indicates.

The multiple surveyed 1,002 men in June this year, with the results suggesting that 68 per cent of 18-34s have had some experience of ED, compared to 50 per cent of those aged over 65.

Twenty-four per cent of the total sample were concerned that erectile problems could affect their ability to have children, rising to 53 per cent of the younger group. Forty-three per cent said they would feel too embarrassed to buy treatment over the counter at a pharmacy.

Well superintendent pharmacist Ifti Khan said: “Erectile dysfunction treatment needn’t be embarrassing.

“ED is right at the top of the list of things that men are least likely to openly discuss, along with mental ill health. In most cases ED is nothing to worry about and anxiety is one of the leading causes for ED. Your first port of call should always be to speak to your local pharmacist or GP to reassure you that it isn’t a symptom of a bigger health concern.

“ED rarely has any connection to the ability to father a child, but if you are having prolonged problems then I definitely recommend that you speak to your pharmacist or GP.

“I would strongly encourage men to seek the treatment they need, and for those who struggle to talk face to face about their condition, everything can now be done quickly and safely online.”
