Wales Week London puts spotlight on community pharmacy

The changing role of community pharmacy in Wales is the subject of a debate during Wales Week London, the annual showcase of activities and events in the capital to celebrate and promote all things Welsh.

Hosted by locum agency New Directions Pharmacy, the online debate will see Pharmacy Magazine editor Richard Thomas join a panel of speakers including: Elen Searle, head of professional services at New Directions Pharmacy; Judy Thomas, director of contractor services at Community Pharmacy Wales; and Gurnam Bhogal of GS Bhogal Pharmacy in Rumney, Cardiff.

With a three-year, £18.3m funding package agreed by the Welsh Government and pharmacies fully signed up to the Delivering a Healthier Wales strategy, amongst the subjects under discussion will be the need for improved technology within the sector, increased opportunities for community pharmacy leads in primary care clusters and training support for community pharmacists to become independent prescribers.

Greater access to Welsh GP records, opportunities for community pharmacists in local health boards and better integration of community pharmacy within the NHS in Wales will also feature.

The discussion takes place on March 4 at 7pm. To book your place click here.
